Trapattoni: All of Italy against Juventus

Giovanni Trapattoni says that Roma are suffering from the "usual victim complex" that he says has long affected all of Juventus ' rivals. The Giallorossi were enraged by the nature of their Serie A loss to the Bianconeri in Turin two weeks ago, with the visitors conceding two contentious penalties, as well as a last-minute winner that could have been disallowed for offside. Roma coach Rudi Garcia, who was fined €5,000 for contesting the first of those spot-kicks , sarcastically stated after the game that he had had no idea that the box was so big at Juventus Stadium , while captain Francesco Totti sparked uproar by claiming that the Giallorossi already know that they are destined to finish second to the Old Lady again this season because the reigning champions receive preferential treatment from referees . However, former Juve boss Trapattoni says that there is simply no truth in the allegation that his old club have long had the officials on their side. "It's the usual victim complex," the 75-year-old told the Gazzetta dello Sport . "Juve wins so often because they have a strong club behind them and great players on the field. "We leave the referees in peace. In Italy, we have some of the most respected referees in the world. "The truth is that Juve don't play against Inter, AC Milan, Napoli or Roma, but against everyone in Italy who is not Bianconero. "It's like this today and it was like this also in my day." Roma goalkeeper Morgan De Sanctis also intimated that refereeing bias also explains why Juve are so successful domestically but continue to struggle in continental competition. However, Trapattoni is adamant that this anomaly is simply down to the decline of Italian football over the past decade. "I won everything with Juve at international level," he pointed out, alluding to the fact that he won a European Cup, an Intercontinental Cup, a European Super Cup, a Cup Winners' Cup and two Uefa Cups with the Bianconeri. "But I had seven of [Enzo] Bearzot's Italy 11 [which won the 1982 World Cup], a champion like [Michel] Platini and the captain and symbol of the Polish national team, Zbigniew Boniek. Today, our top teams are not as competitive. "But I repeat, this is a message that tends to discredit the results of the Bianconeri. "No-one has ever gifted anything to Juve. Do you think that it was easy in my day to beat the Roma of [Nils] Liedholm? And did [Antonio] Conte's Juve of 102 points need help from anyone?" Conte's Juve won last season's Scudetto - their third in succession - with a record-breaking points haul and they currently sit three points clear of Roma after six rounds of action thanks to a perfect start to the 2014-15 campaign under new boss Massimiliano Allegri.
